As part of the European space strategy, the European Commission has established a network of Copernicus ambassadors: the Copernicus Relays. In Italy, the E. Amaldi Foundation acts as such a Relay, coordinating and promoting activities related to the Copernicus programme, its benefits and opportunities for local users and businesses.
The Copernicus Relay network ensures information dissemination and promotion, through the organization of events, of the Copernicus programme as a sustainable source of comprehensive, free, open and reliable information, meeting the needs of national, regional and local public services, as well as serving as an input for the development of commercial services aimed at local-scale applications. The National Copernicus User Forum acts as the national Relay. IEST (Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology), Lazioconnect, TeRN (Technologies for Earth Observation and Natural Hazards), DTA (Aerospace Technology District), ITHACA (Information Technology for Humanitarian Assistance, Cooperation and Action), the E. Amaldi Foundation (former Hypatia Research Consortium), Bluefarm Srl, ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development), AMFM/GIS Italia, Politecnico di Milano, and Infinitive Area act as regional Relays, supporting the outreach of information down to the local level.
