ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) is the European Space Agency (ESA) program that funds the use of space technologies in terrestrial markets, managed in Italy by the E. Amaldi Foundation as ESA BASS Ambassador.
The goal is to promote the integration of space assets — such as satellite telecommunications, Earth observation and satellite navigation — to create solutions with real impact on non-space sectors such as energy, healthcare, mobility, agrifood, finance and sustainability.
With €33 million available at the Italian level, the program funds the development of feasibility studies and demonstration projects worth between €250k and €2M, with funding coverage of up to 80%.
The E. Amaldi Foundation offers structured support across the entire application and project development cycle: from initial guidance and identifying the call best suited to project needs, to proposal preparation and review. It also provides operational assistance during the application phase and throughout the evaluation process, while facilitating strategic networking activities. Finally, support extends to promotion and marketing, helping to showcase the project and increase its visibility on the market.
