The E. Amaldi Foundation organises the 3rd EUDIS “Defence for Space” Hackathon: October 17–19 in Turin (and online).
The EUDIS Hackathon returns to Italy, an initiative promoted by the European Defence Fund within the framework of the EU Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS), and organised by the E. Amaldi Foundation. The event has the patronage of Unione Industriali Torino, ITS Aerospazio/Meccatronica and the Italian Industries Federation for Aerospace, Defence and Security (AIAD).
The Autumn 2025 edition, titled “Defence for Space”, will take place in Turin from October 17 to 19, in hybrid format (both onsite and online participation available), simultaneously with 7 other local hackathons across Europe.
The competition’s objective is to activate an open innovation platform to tackle major challenges in the space and defence domains through dual-use technologies, involving startups, SMEs, students, researchers, and innovators from all over Europe.
A concrete challenge for the future of European autonomy in space
The central theme of the 2025 edition focuses on the strategic role of the space domain in European security and defence, exploring what defence can do to protect space, and what space can do to support defence.
The hackathon brings together participants with diverse skills and backgrounds to work in teams and develop technological solutions applicable to real scenarios. Over the three days, participants will have the opportunity to interact with sector experts, access in-depth content, receive mentorship, and present their projects to a panel of judges.
Participants will be able to choose one of the three official challenges:
-
Protection of space infrastructures
-
Space in service of European defence
-
Autonomous and sovereign aerospace technologies
Who can participate?
The hackathon is open to students, professionals, startups, SMEs, and researchers with citizenship or residence in one of the European Union countries, Norway, or Ukraine, provided they are 18 or older.
No coding experience is required: all you need is an idea or a technology and the willingness to put it to the test.
